Nicholas Hemingway prides himself on producing beautiful luxury wooden mechanical pencils. Handmade by Nicholas Hemingway himself, Nicholas offers walnut and brass mechanical pencils and reclaimed ebony and brass mechanical pencils too. All his pencils are made to his high standards and shipped all over the world to various architects, designers and artists who love to own unique high quality tools in their trade.

As well as wooden mechanical pencils, Nicholas also produces beautiful luxury titanium mechanical pencils as well as pencils made from aluminium, stainless steel and brass pencils too.

Above is our handmade walnut and brass mechanical pencil which is a lightweight pencil finished and polished with beeswax. With a grip diameter of 9mm they feel sturdy in the hand and have a warm natural grain and colour.

This is our handmade reclaimed ebony and brass mechanical pencil and it’s available in 4 lead sizes 0.3mm. 0.5mm, 0.7mm and 0.9mm. Like the walnut this pencil has a barrel diameter of 9mm and feels sturdy in the hand of the user but as the wood is far harder than the walnut mechanical pencil it weighs a fair bit more. If you are looking for a lighter pencil, then we do make a carbon fibre mechanical pencil and an aluminium mechanical pencil available through the website. All orders are made-to-order and orders can be sent anywhere in the world.

Our carbon fibre mechanical pencil is available in 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.7mm and 0.9mm as are all of our luxury mechanical pencils we produce.

Our wooden mechanical pencils also allow the buyer to personalise their pencils with initials engraved on them. Our personalised mechanical pencils add that little extra special touch when you are buying our pencils as gifts for others. We can engrave and infill the engraving with gold resin if you like or just leave them plainly engraved.

We are very proud to have had Lord Norman Foster as a customer of ours. To have one of the world’s most famous architects purchase from us was an amazing day. When we sent his order Nicholas wrote a note (as he does for all his customers) thanking him for his order and surprisingly he wrote back with a nice little hand-drawn drawing included too! Nicholas was blown away by the letter and time Lord Norman Foster took to draw and write it just to say thank you. It was a brilliant day for us.

Also, if you are wondering about what type of graphite you can put into our pencils then don’t worry, our pencils come with standard HB leads, but you can put any lead type you like in them as long as they are the same thickness as the pencil you ordered. Our nib sizes are standard sizes and so alternative leads are easily found anywhere online that will fit.
