This wood has been preserved in ancient peat bog land where it remained perfectly protected from the elements including oxygen which would have otherwise allowed the wood to rot away thousands of years ago.

Two things keep this from being perfect, from my point of view. (1) I wish it were rather heavier. Mine’s 10g. I wish it were twice that. (2) I wish away the signature on the barrel. Part of my love of this brand is the austere plainness of the products; the sig interferes with that aesthetic. ¶ It’s still a great instrument, and the price is excellent.

As all Nicholas’s pencils are, these are beautifully well made, but they they add to that a reminder of the wonder and mysteries of our distant past that make them truly special to own and use. A little wider than the other wood bodied pens I think,they will suit well those who prefer a broader pencil, but they are as beautifully made as all Nicholas’s pencils are.
